WHAT'S MY MOTIVATION?
by Haleine Delail
A few summers ago, "Doctor Who Magazine" put out a special edition of Doctor Who's Golden Moments. The issue called upon various writers, celebrities, fans and commentators to choose one moment from each story to be designated as "Golden." I suppose this means it is a watershed moment in the series, something with major implications upon the future or in hindsight, shows the Doctor or his companion at their valiant and/or clever best, validates why we watch the series in some way, or is otherwise destined to live in posterity for some reason or other.
Well, I'm not particularly well-versed in the classic series, and therefore cannot comment upon the Golden Moments of Tom Baker, et al. I did, however, take exception to some of the choices they made for the modern series. I decided to have my two cents (and then some).
I've included Golden Comic Moments, because Doctor Who has been known to make me laugh out loud, and there's some jolly good writing and delivery involved there. The Golden Fangirl Moment is the thing that makes me squee in each episode! These moments, I find, are most abundant in season 3, but that's just me! The Cringeworthy Moment is added because, well, let's face it: no episode is perfect. The Golden Moment is the Golden Moment, the most dramatic, the most important, etc. It defines the episode for me. Why I Beg To Differ lets you know what DWM chose, and why I disagree!
This is purely entertaining (at least for me). I am not affiliated with Doctor Who, its official magazine or the BBC in any way.
